In the Deltaville area of Middlesex, Norton’s Yachts held a chili contest to build team spirit. Gina Soles Walsh, finance manager, said, “We feel team building is important to help foster collaboration, improve communications and boost morale. We wanted to take a break and do something for fun.”
Three teams competed. “We invited colleagues that we work closely with to be our judges. We had four from Latell Sailmakers, also located in Deltaville.”
Judges used the following criteria: taste, texture, presentation, aroma and aftertaste. Using a 0-10 scoring system, they selected the top chili makers (note in recipes).
Neighboring guests, judges and contestants had an afternoon of camaraderie and good eating. The purpose of the event had been fulfilled.
According to Gina, “We hope to host a team-building exercise each quarter. Not sure if it will always revolve around food. My guess is we will repeat some kind of cook-off possibly twice a year.”
