Children’s program at Arts on Main

ARTLabs for children will be held in the coming week at Arts on Main in Gloucester.

Taught by artist Tenley Raithel, the classes include The Colors of Nature for ages 6-9 from 2-4 p.m. this Saturday; Sonia Delaunay’s Circles from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7; and Fun with Color for ages 10-13 from 2-4 p.m. next Saturday, Oct. 9.

The Colors of Nature will explore the shapes and colors in the works of Native American artist Norval Morrisseau, who uses thick black outlines and bright colors.

Sonia Delaunay’s Circles will introduce students to the abstract artist’s techniques of overlapping to create depth, the difference between two- and three-dimensional perspectives, and color theory.

Fun with Color will look at the artwork of abstract expressionists and color field paintings, which have the goal of expressing the artist’s state of mind with bold color and spontaneity.
