Charles Henry Burcher, 74, of Newport News, died Oct. 18, 2015 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. 

Charles was born Jan. 13, 1941 to Vaden and Gladys Burcher. Charles was a machinist at Ball Metal Corporation. He was an avid bowler and thoroughly enjoyed softball. He loved spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wilton Burcher and Kirby Burcher, and a sister, Minnie Burcher.

He leaves to cherish his memories a son, John Burcher and wife Mary Virginia; daughter, Sandy Hegstrom and husband Noah; grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Austin, Victoria Ann Burcher, Melissa Purdy, Meagan Lamm, A.J., Blue, Nevel and Emma Hegstrom; great-grandchildren, Alice and Elena Purdy, and Alexandria Austin. 

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Arthur L. Wolz Jr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Windsor Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
