CHARLES EDWARD DAVID WHITLEY

Charles Edward David Whitley, 66, of Gloucester, died on Monday, March 28, 2011, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

He was born in Washington, N.C. He was retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. after 28 years of service. He attended St. Therese Catholic Church, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Whitley, and a brother, Emmanuel Whitley.

He is survived by his wife, Susan B. Whitley; his children, David Whitley and his wife Robin of Danville, Va., Jennifer Hale and her husband James of Arizona, Jeff Whitley and his wife Lori of Gloucester; his mother, Essie Alligood Whitley of Washington, N.C.; his siblings, Michael Whitley, Joseph Whitley, Esther Quinn of Poquoson; his grandchildren, Amber Evans, Morgan Whitley, Austin Whitley, Larry Newberry, Brett Newberry, Kristen Hale, and Ryan Hale, and his canine gang.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11. Burial will be in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery.
