A suit filed by Mark and Candy Eubank against former Mathews County officials has been continued beyond the previously scheduled November dates, and the venue has been moved to Middlesex County. As of Tuesday, no date had been set for the jury trial.
Mathews Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Shaw made the rulings during a hearing Friday in Gloucester Circuit Court.
Defendants Susan Thomas (former Mathews codes compliance officer), Mindy Conner (former county administrator) and John Shaw (former planning and zoning director) requested the change of venue because of pretrial publicity the case has received in Mathews.
The judge offered two days in January and two in February for the rescheduled trial, but Eubanks’ attorney Samantha Bohannon requested that a week be set aside for the matter, and Shaw told the parties to determine a week “sometime in the next year” that they could agree on.
