CAROL WILLIAMS RUSSELL

Aug. 9, 1918–Aug. 20, 2015

Carol Williams Russell of Kansas, went to join our Heavenly Father on Aug. 20, 2015.

While on this earth, she was a devoted wife to Harold Garfield Russell Jr. and mother to her three daughters, Leslie Blythe (Robert Allen) of Miramar Beach, Fla., Joan Shorter (Charles) of Blacksburg, Va., and Jennifer Welborn (James) of Overland Park, Kan. She was a proud grandmother of four grandsons, Ryan and Patrick Blythe of Seattle, Wash., Brent Welborn of Camarillo, Calif., and Ross Welborn of Houston, Texas; three granddaughters, Tracey Blythe Moriarty of Aldie, Va., Olivia Shorter Devereux of Falls Church, Va., and Amy Shorter Epperley of Blacksburg. She felt very blessed to have eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Russell was born in San Francisco, Calif. She served our country with pride as a Registered Nurse during World War II. She continued her nursing career with the Public Health department in Fairfax, Va.

She had many interests and passions. Spending time with her family at any beach gave her great delight. She was an excellent bridge player and loved to sail on the Chesapeake with her husband as a member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard. She was a member of the Mathews Woman’s Club and volunteered at the Animal Care Shop because of her love of animals. She also enjoyed traveling, antiquing and shopping with her friends and family. Her family feels very blessed to have had her love and guidance. Her presence will always be felt.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12:30 p.m. at Westville Christian Church, Mathews, Va.
