CARL ASCHMAN

Carl Aschman, 89, of Mathews, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, after a long illness.

He attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. After a tour of service in the U.S. Army, he was employed by the U.S. Navy for many years as an electronics engineer.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Marie Eckert.

Survivors include his wife, Martha McCartney; sons, Harald and Carl Aschman; stepdaughter, Cathleen McCartney Fort, and six grandchildren.

He was a member of Kingston Parish Episcopal Church, the Mathews Yacht Club, and the Mathews County Historical Society. He was past treasurer of the Archeological Society of Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. January 20, at Christ Church, 320 Williams Wharf Road, with a reception to follow at Kingston Parish House, 370 Main Street, Mathews. A private service of commitment will be held at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, Toano, Va., on Jan. 21.
