The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals approved two applications for cellular communications transmission equipment during a meeting on June 25 in the colonial courthouse.

Stuart Squier of GDNsites on behalf of Celico Partnership, trading as Verizon Wireless, VerizonSouth, Inc., property owner, was granted a special exception for establishment of a temporary, 80-foot high, wooden data pole at 6534 Main Street. The property, located in the Ware Magisterial District, is zoned Village Business (B-2).

The second, related application involved placement of a 155-foot cellular monopole tower nearby. That tower will replace an existing lattice-type tower which Verizon officials said is not suitable to hold more advanced cellular equipment.

The data pole is seen as a temporary fix while the new tower is being erected, Verizon officials said. Nobody from the public spoke during the two hearings.
