‘Butterflies for Hope’

Amber Stevens, left, owner of Eggheads Diner at Gloucester Point, helped kick off the Oct. 25 Mid-Tidewater NAMI Walk Fundraiser on two Saturdays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 4, by selling “Butterflies for Hope” at her business in the Gloucester Point Shopping Center. Loreen Paiva, at right, leader of the Mid-Tidewater affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, said the affiliate had worked with local peer centers to plan the fundraiser and provide information about services provided by NAMI. Peer centers are places where people with mental illness or substance abuse problems can socialize and receive support. The Mid-Tidewater affiliate serves the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck and provides education, support, and advocacy for people with mental illness and their families/friends. Butterflies for Hope will be available at local farmers’ markets as scheduling allows, and they are available for purchase on the local Facebook Marketplace until Oct. 25....
