Busy month coming up at Machicomoco State Park

Machicomoco State Park has a full schedule of programs coming up throughout April.

Located off Timberneck Farm Road in Hayes, the 645-acre park is open from 8 a.m. to dusk, and offers campsites and yurts for reservation. Public programs for April include:

Tsenacomacoh Tools & Tech: Smoke and S’mores, Buried Bone Hooks, and Cordage and Fishnets: At 8 p.m. Friday, there will be an outdoor classroom for guests to participate in the burning and scraping out of a log to form a canoe followed by s’mores and educational craft projects. Pre-registration and a $5 fee are required to participate in this event.

Design at Dawn: On April 4 at 10 a.m. there will be a guided painting program at the Interpretive Area in the park. Pre-registration and a $10 fee are required to participate in this event.

Owl Prowl: On April 8 at 8 p.m. guests can learn different owl calls and take part in interactive activities. Those interested in the event are to meet at the Trailhead parking lot.
