Amy Bohannon-Stewart, 50, of Mathews has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Mathews County School Board. Bohannon-Stewart and Linda Hodges are the only two candidates on the ballot for two open seats on the school board.
A former teacher, Bohannon-Stewart said she has a number of issues she would like to work on as a school board member. Among them is the problem of “technology overuse.” While it’s not currently an issue in Mathews schools, she said, she experienced the overuse of technology in her most recent teaching job, and she wants to do her best to prevent it in Mathews and make sure teachers still use books as teaching tools.
Bohannon-Stewart wants school administrators to have a frontline experience with teaching on a regular basis by substitute teaching for at least one class block a month. She said this will “help administrators make the best decisions to improve student achievement.”
