Boater classes offered by Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadronnext month

The Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron will hold a number of boater education classes and free seminars in March.Beginning Monday, March 2 from 6-8 p.m. and continuing for another seven weeks, the group will offer a class in sailing at a cost of $95 for non-members; $20 discount for members. Learn the basics of sailing, boat designs, terminology, rigging and safety from experienced U.S. Power Squadron sailors. The course covers types of sailboat rigs, hull shapes, sail configurations and standing rigging. Wind and water forces affect sailboat stability and balance, sail shape and tuning the standing rig. Steering and helmsmanship, sailing upwind, downwind and spinnaker handling. A class to help people get their VA Boater Certification Card will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on March 14 and 21.
