Boat Virginia class to be held April 20 in Mathews

U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 66, Mathews, will present a free Boat Virginia class from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad Building, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins.

The course is recommended for students 12 years of age and older. Auxiliary instructors will lead students through six chapters in the text to a 60-question test given at the end of class.

After successfully completing the class, students will receive their Virginia Boating Education Certificate which is valid for the boater’s lifetime. Virginia requires the operators of boats with a 10 horsepower or larger engine size to complete this course and to carry their certificates with them on board their craft.

Students should arrive by 8:15 to receive their Boat Virginia booklet and to register. There will be a 45-minute lunch break where everyone is on their own. Pre-registering online is available at www.register-ed.com/events/view/208154.
