120 YEARS AGOThursday, May 10, 1906from the Mathews Journal The Blakes correspondent reports: Here comes Blakes once more to be numbered among the prosperous and thriving villages. The farmers have been busy for the past month pitching their crops and they are now having fine seasons. Mr. J.T. Christian has purchased a fine horse. Mr. G.N. Atherton has just gotten in a full stock of vehicles of all descriptions. We wish our village blacksmith well. Mrs. R.V. Morgan has quite a number of young chickens and ducks. The young gentlemen of this place gave a delightful sailing party Saturday afternoon. The crowd numbering 17 left the public landing at 2:30 o’clock p.m. and returned at 7 p.m. They spent a most delightful afternoon and returned to their homes much pleased and hoping to go again soon.
