Big game checking to be by internet, phone in coming year

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has announced that it will fully transition its big game checking to internet and telephone at the beginning of the 2021-22 hunting season, which is Sept. 1, 2021.

All hunters (including those who are not required to purchase a license) who harvest a deer, turkey, bear, bobcat or elk, will need to check their harvest by calling DWR (866-GOT-GAME), logging on to gooutdoorsvirginia.com, or by using its mobile app harvest reporting system, GoOutdoorsVa (free through the app store), DWR said in a release.

Since 2004, DWR has offered some form of electronic harvest reporting, and beginning in 2019, electronic harvest reporting options were available for all game species for which reporting is required. For more information, contact gamecheck@dwr.virginia.gov.
