Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bena, will hold a Rise Against Hunger meal packing event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 21. This will be a milestone for the church, being the fifth such event in the six years since Pastor Chuck Winner came to Bethlehem. Regarding his association with Rise Against Hunger, Winner said, “Early on in my ministry I got involved with Stop Hunger Now. They changed into Rise Against Hunger, and because of my earlier association with them I just stayed with it. For me it was natural to get involved with their meal-packing events.” At such events, volunteers are organized into teams of three or four, who assemble meals in a prescribed method. Measured amounts of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and a micronutrient flavoring mix go into plastic bags that are carefully weighed, sealed, and packed into boxes for shipping.
