BESSIE W. THRIFT

Bessie W. Thrift, 98, passed away peacefully at Beth Sholom nursing facility in Richmond on June 6, 2019 with her loving family at her side during her recent illness.

She was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church. Bessie (fondly known as “Dardee”) had a tremendous appreciation for music and reading. Dardee was known for her “fine cooking” by all. Her love of animals was exhibited by her dedication to their protection.  She cherished her family especially the three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. While residing on the York River, she took great pleasure observing the beautiful evening sunsets and would often reflect on them.

Before leaving her hometown, Gloucester, Bessie was employed by Virginia Institute of Marine Science as a clerk for 12 years. After moving to Manassas, she worked for Liberty Bank for nine years and retired at the age of 70.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Thrift Jr.; her parents, Woodrow and Lottie Kemp Wilson, and siblings, Bertha W. Hyde and Callie E. Wilson.

Bessie is survived by her two daughters, Jane T. Brockwell (Emmett) and Judy T. Ward; three grandchildren, Rhonda B. Randazzo (Paul), Sherri W. Janelle (Chris) and Gary T. Ward (Karen); five great-grandchildren, Matteo Randazzo, Katherine Ward Janelle, Marco Randazzo, Olivia Hale Ward and Elizabeth Boivin Janelle; a special friend, Patricia “Pat” Wilson; also, her loving family pets, Baby Cat, Molly and Theodore.

A celebration of her life conducted by the Rev. Kenneth S. Waclo was held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2019, in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.  Inurnment will be private.
