Beech Creek Road trailer destroyed in fire

A fire last Wednesday, Feb. 1, destroyed a vacant mobile home at 7049 Beech Creek Road near Pinero.

J.D. Clements, chief of Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Inc., said fire personnel were called to the scene just after 3 p.m. for a report of smoke in the area.

"The first firefighters on scene found a mobile home totally engulfed in fire," Clements said. The home, owned by Bernard Canterbury, had not been occupied for several years, but power was still connected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Clements said. There were no injuries.

He said 20 volunteers responded to the scene along with five engines, a brush truck and a tanker. Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. responded mutual aid with an additional tanker.
