Patrick Beattie, 54, of Dutton, has announced his candidacy for a seat on the Mathews County Board of Supervisors. He is running as an independent.
Beattie also ran for the board in 2011, garnering 15.3 percent of the vote. He said he is running for office again to help bring civility, professionalism, and proper job function back to the board of supervisors. Turnover in the county’s staff has been concerning, he said, with the longest-tenured administration employee having worked there for just five years.
“We need to fix the work environment,” he said. “The board of supervisors needs to understand that their job is to establish job descriptions and policies, then work side-by-side with the county administrator in implementing those policies—not be involved in the day-to-day running of the county.”
