HAMMERHEADS: The Baystars U11 Hammerheads bested the Carolina Lightning and the Virginia Legacy SC Peninsula Wizards last weekend. The Hammerheads beat Carolina, 5-2, on Saturday in Elizabeth City. The first half held inspired play by Caden Thompson of the Hammerheads. He provided an assist to Bryce Fischer for the first goal then Thompson had two follow-up goals of his own. The second half saw goals from Drew West and Ashton Taylor for the Hammerheads. New player Camden Bower provided many solid offensive opportunities and goalies West and Fischer commanded the defense. On Sunday, the Hammerheads beat the Virginia Legacy SC Peninsula Wizards, 3-1, at Woodville Park to improve to 3-0 on the season. Aaron Hines had two first-half goals and Taylor scored in the second half. Thompson again provided excellent ball movement and additional offensive pressure was contributed by Haydin Arquette.
MARLINS: The Baystars U12 Marlins tied up with the CSL Storm, 3-3, on Saturday at Woodville Park. Emily Baker scored from the kick-off for the Marlins with an assist from Lilyan Wright. The Storm evened the score just before halftime. The Storm took the lead, 2-1, in the second half before Wright tied it again with an unassisted goal. The Storm was able to sneak another goal by Marlins’ keeper Lexi Spangler but Jenna Shees-
ley connected with Wright to give her the tying goal and end the game at 3-3. The Marlins travel to Churchland Park this weekend for a rematch with the CSL Storm.
