Although the Baystars U19 Rockfish did not finish in first place in the Williamsburg Columbus Day Invitational earlier this month, they played great games with each team member contributing their best soccer skills for two out of three games won.
In Saturday’s game, the Rockfish lost to Shore FC by one goal. The second game was won by Baystars Rockfish with a final score of 3-1. Corey Skay scored two goals followed by Elias scoring one goal.
In Sunday’s game, the Rockfish won, 2-0. Corey Skay scored one goal and Wiatt St. Lewis scored the second goal of the match.
Captains
The Baystars U13 Captains finished as the runners-up in their division of the Columbus Day Soccer Tournament. It was a hard-fought series of four games, with the final coming down to penalty kicks.
White Caps
The U10 White Caps took part in the Columbus Day Invitational soccer tournament at Warhill Sports Complex.
On Saturday, their first game was against the Virginia Valor FC Gold team. The White Caps goal was defended by keepers Triffon Luechauer and Donnie Wolford, where they had a combined nine goals blocked.
Ryan Seay found the Valor goal three times, with Colton Bergstrom landing one goal. Noah Ford marked two assists. Game one ended in a 4-4 tie.
Their second game, they faced the CVille United FC Little Lions. Lue-chauer again spent time as keeper, marking seven goals stopped. Graham Kittrell defended the net in the second half, saving one goal. On the scoring side, Seay, Bergstrom and Ford all scored once. The White Caps won Game Two, keeping them in contention for the championship.
Sunday morning, the White Caps shut out the Northern Piedmont Sports Club United’s White team with 11 of their 21 shots on goal finding the net. Noah Ford led points with five, Seay marked three with Luechauer, Bergstrom and Wyatt Brockenbrough all scoring once, with Seay and Kittrell assisting.
The White Caps’ defense led by goalkeepers Luechauer, Wolford and Fett Kutch denied NPSC access to their goal. Winning 11-0, the White Caps did what they needed to do to give them a chance at the championship.
Tigersharks
The Baystars U11 Tigersharks played in the Columbus Day Invitational and faced the toughest competition they have seen this fall season.
In their first game, the Tigersharks played a very aggressive match against the Tidewater Sharks of Yorktown. Two goals were achieved by the Tigersharks, one each from Ayden Foster and Easton Wikle. Greyson Mahnke was a goal guardian in this match, with an impressive 17 saves for the Tigersharks. The Tigersharks lost this match to the Sharks with a final score of 4-2.
In their second game, the Tigersharks went head-to-head with Northern Piedmont Sports Club United. The Tigersharks were outperformed by United and their cohesive team passing and skilled shots. Two of the Tigersharks goals found the net, both scored by Wikle.
Two standouts in this game were Bryan Ge who could be found at both ends of the field showing off his speed and skill at the poke-tackle, and Ace Madison who played sweeper and had seven defensive stops. The Tigersharks lost to United, 11-2, and United went on to win first place in the U11 division of the tournament.
In their last game of the tournament, the Tigersharks tied, 2-2, in a competitive match against the Churchland Chargers. Brayden Bartlett scored on a free kick over the defenders’ heads, with the second goal from Foster beyond the box with an assist from Peter Perez.
This past weekend, the Tigersharks traveled to Virginia Beach, posting an 8-2 win over the Beach F.C. Cheetahs.
Bartlett scored four goals for the Tigersharks and demonstrated his variety of skills to score, including long power shots and a toe-poke. The additional four goals were netted by Mahnke, who used his speed and agility to break through the Cheetah defense to take his shots on goal. Assists in this match are awarded to Foster, Ge, Mahnke and Perez. Mahnke served in the goal during the first half of the match with one save, while Perez defended in the second half with two saves.
The Tigersharks currently have a league record of 6-1.
Ospreys
The U14 Ospreys played two games in the first day of the Columbus Day Invitational in Williamsburg. The Ospreys fell short in the first game, 3-2, but came back for the second game to win, 6-3, over the VA Rush Peninsula.
On Sunday, the Ospreys played against the number-two team in their bracket, the Tidewater Sharks. This was a very competitive game, where they came back on top, 3-2.
Even though the Ospreys won, they fell short of one goal to move on to the championships. The team worked hard and Max Ferguson had an amazing two games as goalkeeper.
Riptides
On Sunday, the Baystars Riptides U19 team posted a 4-1 victory against the VA Rush Blue Angels. Kaitlyn Hearon opened the scoring midway through the first half to give Baystars a 1-0 lead. Jenna Sheesley, Emmy Baker and Ava Santellanes provided the rest of the scoring for the Gloucester team.
Swordfish
The Baystars U14 Swordfish took a 2-0 win against VA Beach Chaos on Saturday. Both goals came in the first half. Skyler Collins scored first on a free kick and then Greylyn Sewell scored to earn their second goal of the game. Keeper Riley Gale and her defensive line didn’t allow anything by. Leah Hyde also had an impressive number of headers in the game.
Hammerheads
The Baystars Hammerheads faced the Richmond Kickers this past weekend, ending in a 3-3 tie. Owen Steele scored two goals and Zane Williams provided the other score for the Gloucester team.
Wahoo
This past Saturday, the Baystars U10 Wahoo traveled to Chesapeake and claimed a 1-0 win against AYSO. The game’s only goal came from Isabel Alderman.
The Wahoo defense held strong throughout the match, with Reagan Hartman and Mireya Marsh sharing duties as goalkeepers, keeping a clean sheet. Shayla Wezensky anchored the defense with a solid performance, helping the team secure the victory.
Hurricanes
The Baystars U9 Hurricanes won its home match over the weekend by a score of 7-1 over the VIP United Futures 2016. Theo Collins scored four goals, Theo Collins had two and Gabriel Franklin scored a lone goal, while Audrick Martinez and Sebastian Newman shared duties as goalkeeper, holding the opponents to a single goal.
