Attracting bees

The Gloucester Ruritan Club held its April meeting at Olivia’s in the Village. Henry Thompson, above, a Middle Peninsula Master Naturalist, spoke to the club about the importance of attracting native bees for pollination. He focused creating habitats for the specific mason and leafcutter bees that are native to this area. He is shown holding an observation hive with handmade tubes to attract blue orchard bees to lay their eggs. Smaller diameter tubes will be inserted in July to attract alfalfa bees. ...
