Armistead scores 400th point as JV girls end season with win

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team ended its season with a win against Poquoson last Thursday by a score of 39-28. 

The Devils came out of the gates scoring, putting up 32 points while the Islanders were only able to muster 14. The second half showed Poquoson matching its total from the first half, scoring 14. Mathews struggled, with the Devils only scoring seven points, but within those seven points came something very special.

During the third quarter, eighth grader Ellie Armistead recorded her 400th point for the season, it was announced over the intercom as she sank a three-pointer. Armistead ended the season with 406 points.  Armistead led the way last Thursday with 24 points, Jade Davis scored six, and Emily Carmine was close behind with five. Skyller Worley and Chesapeake West each added two points.
