ARLEENE ROWE HAWKINS

Arleene Rowe Hawkins, a lifelong resident of Gloucester, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 5, 2016, having fought the “good fight” of a lengthy illness.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin A. Hawkins; her son, Christopher W. Hawkins and his wife Jennie; her granddaughter, Jade Arleene, and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Arleene was a faithful member of Bellamy United Methodist Church, and had retired in May of 2015 from the Newington Courthouse Preschool (formerly the NCP&K) after more than 30 years, touching the lives of a thousand or more children—quite a legacy. “Miz Hawkins” began as a volunteer, continued as a teacher of both three and four year olds, and then served as the school’s director. She was a champion for children of all ages, teaching them to care for all of God’s creatures…“Great and Small,” and she loved camping in the great outdoors.

Arleene’s kindness and generosity, her sense of humor and beautiful smile will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Bellamy United Methodist Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the general fund of Bellamy United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.
