Another dominating performance for MHS runners

The Mathews High School cross country team continued its season this past week with another dominating performance. The squad traveled to Middlesex High School on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The Blue Devils were prepared for the match against their rivals, the Chargers, as well as for the King William Cavaliers. The girls’ and boys’ races were conducted separately this week, unlike the season opener.

The girls’ race began first. The first female runner to cross the line completed the course in a time of 22:45, leading the Middlesex team. Abbie Hudgins led the Blue Devils for the second consecutive week, crossing the line at 23:55.

Four Mathews runners followed closely—Brittany Ottarson (25:15), Avery Betz (25:25), Jaysen Hall (25:38) and Jade Davis (26:12). King William’s first runner was next to cross the line with a time of 28:01, and two teammates close behind. Caroline Bray (30:03) and eighth grader Chelsea Lowe (34:58) finished the team scoring for Mathews...
