The public is invited to Timberneck House (located inside Machicomoco State Park, Hayes) next month for a program called “Animals of the Revolution,” an educational event being held as part of America’s 250th. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, the public is invited to explore the important role animals played in everyday life during the Revolutionary era, from the forests and waterways to farms and homes. Visitors will learn how people relied on animals for food, labor, transportation, trade and survival, while also discovering the wildlife that shaped the natural landscape of early Virginia, a release stated. Community partners, including the Virginia Living Museum, Friends of Middlesex Animal Shelter, Jamestown Rediscovery, Batten School & VIMS, Machicomoco State Park, and the Farm on Hickory Fork, will provide interactive exhibits, educational demonstrations and live animal encounters that connect visitors to both the past and present.
