A funeral for Abraham Brown, 85, of Cobbs Creek, was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek. He died Thursday, June 7, 2012.

Mr. Brown was the son of the late Louis and Lucy Ann Burrell Brown.

He graduated from Gloucester Training School and served in the United States Army, where he received the Purple Heart. He later attended St. Paul College (University).

He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company after many years of employment. Later, he was employed with Peebles Department Store.

He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen Brown; two stepdaughters, Doris White and Marilyn Burrell; two stepsons, Rick Burrell and Randall Burrell; a sister, Queen Elizabeth Taylor; 15 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The service was conducted by Pastor Eric Robinson, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, Hudgins, was in charge.
