Boys & Girls Club of Gloucester has ensured that youth living on the Virginia Peninsula have an inclusive and safe space to engage in an array of development opportunities, a release stated. Club vice president Mary Lou Shepherd presented the check to hospice manager Brenda Scales. The hospice team provides care for anyone who has a life-limiting illness who wants to focus on quality of life rather than on curative measures. It provides a compassionate, holistic approach to end-of-life needs.The Abingdon Ruritan Club presented a $1,000 donation check on Aug. 10 to Circle Of Friends Foundation, Inc., in Gloucester. Club vice president Mary Lou Shepherd presented the check to Dr. Joe Lombard Jr. The Circle of Friends Foundation is a charitable and educational organization which assists physically and mentally challenged individuals and groups.The Abingdon Ruritan Club made a $1,000 donation recently to the Lewis B. Puller Center, located on Main Street, Gloucester. Club vice president Mary Lou Shepherd presented the donation check to Mike Freeman a supervisor at the center. The Puller Center provides long-term employment, training, and day support services to 50 adults with disabilities from the 10 counties on the Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck. It is the only work center for people with disabilities in this region. While working at the Puller Center, people with disabilities work and receive support not typically found in other work settings.
