‘Abbreviated’ Veterans Day ceremony in Gloucester

Veterans Day is next week, and although the coronavirus pandemic has canceled many observances, one will still be going on, although in a subdued fashion.

The Middle Peninsula Detachment #1317 of the Marine Corps League and American Legion Post #75 will host “a very abbreviated ceremony” at 1 p.m. next Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the American Legion post headquarters, off Route 17 south of Gloucester Court House, according to a Marine Corps League release.

Traditionally, the ceremony was held at the Gloucester Veterans’ Memorial Wall in front of the courthouse.

Mathews American Legion Post #83, which usually holds a Veterans Day Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the post in Hudgins, has had to cancel this year’s event.

For more information on the various veterans’ organizations in the two counties, see pages 12A-13A.
