A narrow escape from drowning

While out in his canoe on Monday, May 3, Mr. William Diggs of Winter Harbor was capsized and narrowly escaped drowning. He was seen from the shore by Mr. Frank Callis, who, not being able to go after him on account of the condition of his boat, immediately notified Mr. Jett West.

Mr. West went around to rescue him in his gasoline boat. He found Mr. Diggs, clinging to the pole and net of a pound, in an exhausted condition. The wind was high and the sea very rough so that he could not have held on much longer.

From Laban correspondent: We are getting on fine around this way with our farm work. All the early truck is looking fine, and right many have planted their corn. The fish season is coming to a close. This has been a dull one with most of them.
