Postal historian Andrew Graff will present “A History of Middlesex Posts” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, in the historic courthouse in Saluda. The presentation is sponsored by the Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society.
Augmenting his talk will be examples pulled from his extensive collection of Virginia Posts from the 1700-1800s. These handwritten notes were passed between people and localities before the establishment of the present-day postal system. In the days long before email, texting and tweeting, these notes kept people tied together and relayed important information across sparsely inhabited areas of our developing country, a release stated.
Graff has been collecting posts since the 1980s and has examples that will give insight into the ebb and flow of life in Middlesex in bygone days.
