A first-hand account of Charlottesville

Lucy Maurer, a Gloucester resident counter-protesting in Charlottesville on Saturday, was one of the guest speakers during Sunday’s rally in Ordinary. 

She told the crowd, “I took a lot of pictures yesterday. Some of those pictures were of the guys that were in the paramilitary uniforms.

“These guys were armed to the teeth. They were well-organized … They were communicating with each other. They were there to protect Nazis. That image just stayed with me … We have to be the ones to stand with, in front of, and behind our African American neighbors and say, ‘This is wrong.’” ...
