The Mathews High School volleyball teams swept their opponents in straight sets on Tuesday as the Lady Devils traveled to King and Queen to face the Lady Tigers. The JV squad started off the action, beating the host Tigers in two sets. The first set score was 25-17. The second set was much closer as the score kept going back and forth. However, Mathews prevailed at the end, 25-23. That win set the stage for the varsity contest and the Lady Devils didn’t disappoint, also sweeping the Tigers, 3-0. With that win, the Lady Devils improved to 3-0 on the season after posting a pair of victories over Colonial Beach earlier. In Tuesday’s win, Emily Ward served seven aces and Hailey Love served five. Meredith Salvadori had a total of eight kills and one solo block. Bentlea Lawrence, Kate Small and Harmony Smith also each had a solo block.
