“The contract’s been signed. It’s all in place.” Interim Gloucester County Administrator George Bains has shared that the Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad new Station 1 project will begin later this month in Gloucester Court House. “The Board [of Supervisors] has been supportive of this project for several years,” said Bains. Representatives from the county, GVFRS and Gloucester County Economic Development Authority came together on July 21 to sign the paperwork to borrow the funds for the project. “All three had to work together to bring this project to fruition,” said Bains. The project is estimated to cost $13.2 million, but $17 million is being borrowed to cover a contingency fund and issuance costs. “The bids were very tight,” said Bains. “It was very good to see that all the bids came in close to each other.” The new station will be constructed by David Nice Builders of Williamsburg, which completed a new station for the Williamsburg Fire Department in 2023. “We’re ju...
