When Presa Canario Lady Genevieve entered the care of the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society on Sept. 1, Highway to Home Coordinator Marie Jondreau sprang into action to make sure the large-breed canine found the best placement possible. “You want to go by best fit for breed knowledge,” said Jondreau about finding adopters, who specializes in transporting GMHS pets to adoption-guaranteed agency partners. “She was six months old and already 84 pounds. Large breeds tend to sit a little longer in the shelter.” This could not be more true when finding a placement for a Presa Canario as it is a large breed and tends to imprint on one owner for life.
