Benny Burrell, a former deputy sheriff in Mathews County and with other departments on the Middle Peninsula, has released a new inspirational book, “Wait One Minute, God, I’m Not Ready Yet.” According to Burrell, who now lives in Bluefield, West Virginia, “the book explores the common excuses people make when they sense God is calling them to a greater purpose.” He said it offers encouragement “to step forward in faith.”Drawing from scripture and personal insight, Burrell said he examines the lives of biblical figures who initially hesitated when called by God. Through practical teaching and reflection, he encourages readers to replace fear, doubt, and hesitation with faith and obedience. “Many of us have told God, ‘I’m too young,’ ‘I’m too old,’ ‘I’m not qualified,’ or ‘I’m not ready,’” said Burrell.
