GHS softball players earn honors

After claiming the state runner-up title in the Virginia High School League Class 4 tournament, the Gloucester High School varsity softball team has collected several post-season honors at the district, regional and state levels. Junior pitcher Autumn Cookson was named first team all-state, all-region and all-district. She ended the season with a 10-2 record with 119 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched and an earned run average of 1.52. Offensively, Cookson hit .395 with 27 RBIs and 41 runs scored. Seniors Cameron Palas, catcher, and Hannah Horsley, centerfielder, were both named second team all-state, first team all-region, and first team all-district. Palas hit .376, driving in 33 runs and reaching home plate 26 times. She also set the VHSL RBI career record of 160 RBIs. Horsley ended the season with a .370 batting average with 32 runs scored, 20 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases.
