Editor, Gazette-Journal: I am tired of being a political tool. I am tired of people who have never met me making decisions for me. As a grown woman, living in one of the richest countries in the world, I should be able to select the health care that I think is best for me. But that isn’t the way it works. Politicians tell me what medicine I am allowed to use and what can be done to my body. Insurance companies decide if I can have the surgeries and take the medicines my doctor prescribes. Hospital boards decide if I will have to drive hundreds of miles to receive care. Decisions about pregnancy and health care should be made by patients—women—and their doctors. I am tired of waiting for Rob Wittman’s support. His vast experience in public health has not resulted in better, affordable health care for women in our rural community.
