What began as a small food pantry serving 13 families from a two-car garage in 2009 has grown into one of the largest food distribution operations on the Middle Peninsula. The Bread for Life Community Food Pantry, located in Gloucester, Along John Clayton Memorial Highway, across from Ware Episcopal Church, now serves residents from 11 counties and provides grocery-style shopping for hundreds of families each month. The pantry’s mission remains simple. The goal is ensuring that neighbors in need have access to nutritious food while being treated with respect. “We want people who come in here to have a really positive experience,” said executive director Tra-cey Reed. “Our mission is to serve everybody with dignity.” Reed, who became executive director in September 2024, is the pantry’s only paid staff member.
