GVFR battles brush fire in Pinetta area Saturday

Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue members took on a rather large brush fire on Saturday morning in the Pinetta area of the county. Firefighters were dispatched at 10:40 a.m. to the incident, which was reported as an “out-of-control brush fire and homeowner needs help” in the 3400 block of Lowneyville Lane, according to Tom Wyatt, who was incident commander. Responding units advised that smoke was seen in the area from about a mile away, Wyatt said. First arriving units Medic 63 and Brush 6 found a large brush pile next to the wood line heavily involved in fire, he said. Brush 6 was placed in a position near the wood line and used to keep the fire from spreading into the woods until other units could arrive and set up operations. When Engine 10 arrived, Wyatt said, it assumed a position as the primary fire attack pumper and water was fed to it from various apparatus until a water supply source could be secured.
