MHS golfers play Middlesex, KW, WP

The Mathews High School golf team has been busy in recent action, taking on Middlesex on Tuesday, Sept. 3, King William the following day and West Point on Monday, according to MHS head coach Jake Jackson. Middlesex defeated Mathews in the Sept. 3 match, with the Chargers ending with a 168 score, while Mathews scored 241. Adam Dustin and Miles Hugate led Mathews, both scoring 57. On Sept. 4, King William posted a team score of 173, while Mathews finished with 248. Jackson Rowe led Mathews with 58. Monday’s match against West Point was the Devils’ Senior Night, recognizing seniors Hayden Marshall and Christian Blue. In the closely fought match, West Point (228) edged Mathews (233) by five strokes. Chase Ambrose shot 56 and Miles Hugate scored 58. “We fell into a slump, but I have high hopes these boys will bounce back and end their season strong,” the MHS coach said. “My main goal is for these guys to have fun but also see them set their own goals.” Mathews was scheduled to face Middles...
