From pro wrestlers and Vikings to Daleks and the local blacksmith, Saturday’s eighth annual Comix Con at the Gloucester Library was the perfect day, according to coordinator Nancy Halstead.
“In preparation for Comix Con there is a tremendous amount of work which goes on behind the scenes,” she said. “Library staff, vendors, exhibitors, Friends of the Library, Gloucester County staff, and community volunteers were all instrumental in making the event a success.”
Halstead said this year’s attendance was 1,376. “We had a great turnout from the community,” she said. “Mark your calendars for next year, Aug. 8, 2026.”
First-place winners of the Comix Con’s costume contest included Patrick Smith “Jack Frost” (ages 18+), Gray Ryan “Hunter Bloodbourne” (ages 12-17), Holden Sweeden, “Plankton & Karen” (ages 5-11) and Lydia White “Princess Peach & Yoshi” (birth to age 4). Sierra Cheyenne McGill won the “Draw Your Library Robot” art contest and Ryan was the winner of the Mike Parodi Costume Craftsmanship Award.

The Knights of Columbus Council 9428, associated with the Church of St. Therese, Gloucester, was one of the food vendors, serving hamburgers, French fries and more from its food truck. Jim Gierlak managed the food truck operation and Tom Trudeau (pictured below) ran the cooking team, with members doing the cooking, serving, setup and cleanup. The council manages the food truck to support its fundraising efforts. The cooking team and truck are available for other community events.
