6 MHS athletes compete at state track meet

Six Mathews High School athletes competed in Friday’s VHSL Class 1 state track and field championships at the James Madison University Track and Field Complex in Harrisonburg.

Jamari Henderson was the highest placing MHS athlete, taking fourth place in the boys’ triple jump with a leap of 40’1.5”. Nasir Thomas also competed in that event, taking seventh place for his 39’8.5” effort.

In the 3,200-meter run, Cameron Stearns came in fifth and Grayson Camp placed 16th overall with times of 10:28.04 and 12:27.22, respectively.

Caleb Thomas came in sixth place in the boys’ high jump, clearing 5’10” in the finals. The only MHS girl in the competition, Melody Smith, clocked a time of 14:55.62 in the 3,200-meter run to finish in 12th place.
