Physical education instructor Pat Moughon was recognized at the May 17 meeting of Mathews County School Board on the occasion of her retirement. Moughon has taught 31 years in Mathews and, before that, 11 in Middlesex. School board chairman Linda Hodges, at left, is shown presenting Moughon a commemorative plaque. Good news for Blue Devil sports fans: While Moughon will be stepping away from her teaching duties, she said she hopes to return to coaching volleyball in the fall. Moughon has built a highly successful program, guiding Mathews to state titles in 2011, 2012 and 2017. All of this year’s retirees will be honored at a special end-of-year program on Wednesday, June 1.
