300+ merchants signed up for Shop Local Day

Chesapeake Bank and the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce will partner with local businesses in Gloucester and Mathews to co-sponsor Shop Local Day on Saturday.

The event will give local businesses an opportunity to showcase the goods and services they provide to their neighbors, said Chesapeake’s marketing director Paula Milsted, while shoppers get a chance to take advantage of many bargains and special offers available on that day.

Milsted said that 72 businesses in Gloucester had already signed up to participate by Monday morning, along with 43 Mathews businesses.

“Shopping at locally owned and operated businesses makes it possible for operations like mine to provide much-needed jobs to young people,” said Steve Wiseman, owner of Best Value Supermarket in Mathews. A drawing will be held to win a gift certificate at Best Value Saturday.
