2 new members join Mathews Community Foundation

The Mathews Community Foundation Advisory Board recently welcomed new board members Antichella (Shelly) Forrest and Captain David (Dave) C. Rollins.

Each will serve three-year terms working on various committees of the foundation.

Forrest is the owner of Royal Occasions & Catering and a minister in the county. She is a native of the Mathews, graduated from Mathews High School and is married to Steven Forrest. She and her husband are co-pastors at Kingdom Covenant Ministries in Cobbs Creek.

Rollins, a native of Swampscott, Massachusetts, is a retired Navy captain with 30+ years of service, including five command assignments. He and his wife Debra have been residents of Mathews County for over 20 years. A graduate of the University of Maine, the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, he holds a Master of Science in Education degree from Old Dominion University. Rollins’s activities in Mathews include past membership on the Mathews County Planning Commission (including serving as its chairman), active support for Meals on Wheels, participation on MCVIC committees and membership in Friends of the Library, Mathews Historical Society, and Mathews Yacht Club.

“We are excited that Shelly and Dave have agreed to join our group,” said board chairman Bill Whitley. “Their experience and knowledge of the community and their compassion for our citizens will be big assets to our work. Our board continues to look for new and innovative ways to help our residents. Our recent funding for the YMCA Preschool Program and funding for the Mathews County Against Poverty Water for All Project are examples of that. If you are interested in joining our efforts by contributing, please reach out to us at 804-757-3454.”

MCF was established in 1999 with a mission of improving the quality of life for those living and working in Mathews by encouraging local philanthropy, establishing and maintaining endowment funds, providing donors a way to create enduring charitable funds that reflect their priorities, and making grants that meet changing community needs.
