The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation recently awarded $3.5 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in multiple states. Two of the recipients were local—the Virginia Institute of Marine Science Foundation and the Mathews County Land Conservancy. The VIMS Foundation was awarded $25,000 to support Marine Science Day 2026 at the College of William and Mary’s VIMS campus, located at Gloucester Point. The event provides education opportunities focused on marine and coastal ecosystems in the Chesapeake Bay, along the Atlantic Coast, and around the world. The Mathews County Land Conservancy was awarded $5,000 to upgrade the educational programming and public access capacity at Williams Wharf Landing on the East River. Regional organizations that have affiliates in Gloucester and/or Mathews also received grants.
