2 Gloucester convenience stores now trading as Speedway

The two former WilcoHess gasoline and convenience stores in Gloucester recently began trading under a new name: Speedway.

On Oct. 1, 2014, Speedway, LLC, purchased Hess’s retail operations (including WilcoHess) and began the conversion of those locations to the Speedway brand, said Stefanie Griffith, communications manager for Marathon Petroleum Corporation, the Findlay, Ohio-based parent of Speedway.

Not all stores will be re-branded at once, as Speedway has approximately 2,770 company-owned and -operated locations and approximately 33,800 employees total. Both local stores are on Route 17, one south of Gloucester Court House at the corner of Burleigh Road and the other at Gloucester Point. The conversion process to the Speedway branding included new signs. “In the coming months, you will likely see additional upgrades and remodels to further enhance the customer experience at these locations,” Griffith said.
