1st Gloucester female Cub Scout advances to BSA troop

Kailey Lehman is the first female Cub Scout in Gloucester to earn the Arrow of Light badge for a Cub Scout pack and to bridge over to a Boy Scout troop.

She bridged over on March 13 at Beaverdam Park from Cub Scout Pack 175 to Scouts BSA Troop 1651.Lehman joined as a Bear when she was in the third grade in 2018, the first year girls were allowed in the scouting program.

To earn the Arrow of Light badge, Lehman had to earn a variety of merit badges including Camping, First Aid and CPR and Survival.

“My favorite thing about scouting is the camping,” said Lehman.

She said she enjoys being out in the wilderness, painting rocks, visiting national parks and museums, hiking and nature. In the scouting program, she learned how to stay warm inside a tent, what to do when she gets a cut, and how to identify poison ivy.
