Coast Guard Auxiliary Mathews Flotilla 66 presented a boating safety class on Sept. 27 at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad in Hudgins. Eleven students received their lifetime Boating Education certificate, satisfying the state requirements that all operators of personal watercraft and motorboats of 10 horsepower or greater pass an approved boating safety education course.
The course, titled “Boat Virginia—A Course in Responsible Boating,” is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, covering topics such as the nautical rules of the road, the legal requirements of boating, what to do in an emergency, and safe operation of a personal watercraft.
